Sure I can get the touchpad back to life by reinstalling the whole OS. what can I do to help others that may be experiencing the same symptoms? Well, in case I'm the first one to encounter this problem. But what is needed, is something better than Google search links to old Nabbles etc. It may be related to the distribution, it may be due unfortunate circumstances, but my basic point is this: why can't the key combination toggle status on/off? There are any number of reasons why a laptop user may wish to disable their touchpad for a time: often, this is done while typing long strings of text to prevent the cursor from moving in the event that a hand grazes the touchpad but it is just as common for users to lock the touchpad while watching a movie, playing games, or when using a USB mouse.
